CASA Kane County, a local nonprofit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children, was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. This grant allowed CASA Kane County to replace its computer server, which lacked adequate memory, was no longer compatible with current hardware or software programs, and made the organization vulnerable to viruses. The new server has twice the storage capacity and the ability to backup data locally and online. CASA Kane County’s staff can now access files more quickly and efficiently, free from viruses, and in a way that is more compatible with current technology.
CASA Kane County is extremely grateful to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley for funding this project. The Community Foundation prefers to fund the capital needs of local nonprofit organizations, and has been an important supporter of the CASA program in Kane County since 1997. CASA Kane County trains volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children. Last year, 268 Court CASA volunteers served 515 children throughout Kane County.
According to CASA Kane County’s Executive Director Gloria Bunce, “We are so fortunate to have the support of the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, which also holds our endowment fund for the on-going needs of the organization. A new server was crucial for the continued success and impact of our program.”
The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a collection of individual funds and resources given by local citizens to enhance and support the quality of life in the Fox River Valley. In 2011, the Foundation awarded more than $2.3 million in grants to non-profits. Additionally, over $720,000 in scholarships was awarded to local students.
