Furnishings For Two New Bedrooms

AHK’s expansion project commenced in May, 2011, and had become a priority, since more than 50 children had been turned away during the last two years. Due to the increased numbers of children who were transferring from hospitals for care, AHK was forced to cancel children scheduled for respite care during the first 5 months of 2011. When completed, the facility will increase from a 10-bed home to a 12-bed home, and thanks to the Community Foundation’s contribution, the two new rooms will be properly furnished to welcome more children. The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley has generously awarded a grant of up to $4,000 to Almost Home Kids (AHK™) for furnishings for the two bedrooms that are being added to the existing home in Naperville, Illinois.

“The mission of AHK is to provide transitional care and respite care to children in a home-like setting. The Community Foundation is helping us reach more children and families who desperately need our services. Their role is instrumental to this expansion project,” said Deborah Grisko, President and CEO of AHK.

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a non-profit, philanthropic organization that administers individual charitable funds from which grants and scholarships are distributed to benefit the citizens of the Greater Aurora Area, the Tri-Cities and Kendall County, Illinois.

Almost Home Kids™ (AHK) is a nonprofit that provides transitional care in a home-like setting to children with complicated health needs, as well as training for the children’s families, and respite care. AHK medical professionals help children who are medically fragile and their care-givers make a safe transition from hospital to home. AHK helps children who need short-term care avoid entering more costly facilities, thereby saving state and federal government an estimated $5 million in Medicaid expense each year.
