Hanah Rae Friel
The fund was established to celebrate the life of Hanah Rae Friel. In July 2004, two-year-old Hanah Rae Friel was suddenly diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. She spent thirty-seven days at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. During this time, she entered a clinical trial in conjunction with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This involved an intensive drug therapy program including chemotherapy, radiation and finally a stem cell transplant that occurred earlier that year. According to her family, “Hanah’s spirit remains strong and her blue eyes continue to dance.” A website, www.heartsforhanah.org, has been launched to raise community awareness of childhood cancer.
