“Expecting Nothing Less Than Success”

Marin Gonzalez

At a recent educational meeting hosted by the Community Foundation, Dunham Fund and Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Marin Gonzalez (Ed.D.), Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Programs at East Aurora School District 131, spoke about her extensive study on the academic success of Hispanic students.

Her research points to parental involvement in the form of praise and encouragement as a key factor in transforming the educational success of our youth. There are specific parental strategies that can easily be implemented.  Learn More

Dr. Gonzalez also concluded that educators play a crucial role in student success through positive interactions.  By demonstrating faith in a student’s ability, a teacher has the opportunity to turn that life around.  Read More

We are grateful to Marin Gonzalez for sharing her research.  At a time when test scores continue to plummet throughout our nation, it is reassuring to learn that student achievement is traceable to parents and educators who insist upon success through positive and compassionate interactions.

Peaceful Schools of the Fox Valley

Bullying Destroys Young Lives

In 2002, the Community Foundation launched Peaceful Schools of the Fox Valley, an anti-bullying program that now is part of the curriculum of several local elementary schools.  In recent years, the Dunham Fund and the Juvenile Protective Association have joined in the support of this program.  We continue to fund Peaceful Schools of the Fox Valley each year as a way to protect the children in our communities from the tragedies that result from bullying.  We also have established the Peaceful Schools of the Fox Valley Fund that accepts contributions from citizens who wish to make a difference in the lives of our youth.  To contribute to this fund, please click here.
